The Self Within
A six-week contemplative exploration of the influences that shaped us and the deeper Self that remains.

What This Group Is About
Much of our lives is shaped by influences we rarely pause to examine. We inherit roles, family stories, cultural expectations, and images of who we are supposed to be. Over time, these influences can become so familiar that we begin to experience them as our identity.
And yet beneath these layers, many people sense that something deeper remains — a more authentic center of being that is not defined by performance, survival strategies, or inherited expectations.
The Self Within is a six-week contemplative group designed to explore these influences with curiosity and compassion, creating space to encounter the deeper Self that exists beneath them.
Rather than analyzing or fixing ourselves, we will gently bring awareness to the forces that have shaped us — including archetypal patterns, family lineage, early experiences, cultural narratives, and inherited spiritual ideas. As these influences become more visible, many people find that they begin to experience a quieter, steadier sense of Self emerging within them.
This group is not about self-improvement or achieving a particular outcome. Instead, it is an invitation to slow down, listen inwardly, and become more conscious of the inner landscape of your life.
Who This Group Is For
This group may be a good fit if you:
Are reflective or spiritually curious
Sense that your life has been shaped by roles or expectations you didn’t consciously choose
Want a more compassionate relationship with your inner world
Are interested in contemplative exploration rather than quick answers or techniques
Appreciate thoughtful conversation in a supportive small group environment
Participants do not need any prior experience with spiritual direction or contemplative practice.
People from many different spiritual backgrounds (or none at all) are welcome. Participants are invited to interpret their experience in whatever spiritual or philosophical language feels authentic to them.
What to Expect
Each session lasts approximately 90 minutes and follows a gentle rhythm:
A brief grounding or centering practice
A short framing reflection introducing the theme of the week
Guided journaling or creative reflection
Small-group sharing and conversation
A quiet closing reflection
The atmosphere of the group is intentionally calm, spacious, and non-judgmental. Participants are welcome to share as much or as little as they feel comfortable sharing.
Because the group is small, participants often find that a sense of trust and depth develops naturally over the six weeks.
Week-by-Week Overview
Week 1 — The Roles We Learned to Wear
We begin by exploring the roles and identities that have shaped our lives: caretaker, achiever, peacemaker, spiritual performer, and others. These roles often develop for good reasons, but they can sometimes obscure our deeper sense of Self.
Participants will reflect on the roles that have been most influential in their lives and begin to notice how these patterns continue to shape their inner experience.
Week 2 — Archetypal Patterns of the Inner Life
Human experience often unfolds through recurring inner patterns or archetypal energies: the seeker, the rebel, the healer, the critic, the guide.
This week invites participants to notice which inner figures seem most present in their lives and how these patterns influence their decisions, relationships, and sense of identity.
Week 3 — Family and Ancestral Influences
Each of us carries stories that began long before we were born. Family history, inherited expectations, and generational patterns can shape how we see ourselves and the world.
In this session, participants will gently explore how family narratives and ancestral influences may have contributed to the formation of their identity.
Week 4 — Cultural and Spiritual Inheritance
Beyond family, we are also shaped by cultural values, social expectations, and spiritual traditions.
Participants will reflect on how inherited beliefs — including ideas about success, worth, goodness, or spirituality — may have shaped their inner life.
Week 5 — What Has Always Been Present
As we become more aware of these influences, we may begin to notice something that has remained quietly present throughout our lives: a deeper sense of Self that is not defined by roles or expectations.
This session focuses on cultivating awareness of that deeper presence.
Week 6 — Encountering the Self Within
The final session offers space to reflect on the journey of the past six weeks and to notice what has become more visible in the process.
Participants will consider how their relationship with themselves may be shifting and what it might mean to live with greater awareness of the Self within.
What Participants Often Gain from This Experience
While each person’s experience will be unique, participants often find that the group creates space for insights and shifts that are difficult to access alone.
Over the course of six weeks, many participants begin to:
Develop a more compassionate understanding of themselves
Recognize the roles and patterns that have quietly shaped their identity
Gain language for their inner life
Experience moments of clarity about what feels most authentic within them
Feel less alone in their inner questions and experiences
Cultivate a deeper sense of inner steadiness and self-trust
Rather than striving to “fix” anything, the group invites a different posture: one of attentive listening to the deeper currents of one’s life.
Often, participants discover that simply bringing gentle awareness to these influences allows something more authentic to emerge.
Is This the Right Time for You?
This group may be especially meaningful if you find yourself asking questions like:
Who am I beneath the roles I’ve taken on?
What influences have quietly shaped the person I’ve become?
Is there something deeper in me that I haven’t fully listened to yet?
Many people join during seasons of transition, reflection, or quiet curiosity about their inner life.
You do not need to have everything figured out. In fact, this group tends to be most helpful for people who are simply willing to approach their inner world with openness and curiosity.
If you feel drawn to the idea of slowing down, reflecting more deeply, and exploring the Self within in the company of others doing the same, this group may be a good fit.

Do I need to prepare anything in advance?
No preparation is required. Participants may find it helpful to have a journal or notebook available during sessions.
What spiritual perspective does this group follow?

Many of the most meaningful discoveries about our lives do not happen through effort or analysis, but through moments of quiet attention—when we slow down enough to listen to what has been present within us all along.
The Self Within offers a small, thoughtful space to do exactly that: to reflect, to listen, and to encounter the deeper Self that continues to unfold beneath the surface of everyday life.
Group size is limited to ten people.
